La Amistad International Park is a joint effort of Costa Rica and Panama, located in the Cordillera de Talamanca that is a mountain range rising from near sea level to over 3,800 m. Because of its location and variation in altitude, the region contains nearly a dozen different Hold ridge life zones in Costa Rica.
There is a great abundance of mammalian fauna here, including jaguars, peccaries, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, tapirs, anteaters, sloths, armadillos, pacas, deer, and agoutis. In addition, there are over 300 species of birds.
La Amistad International Park station at Sector Pittier is reached via San Vito de Coto Brus. Trails lead to Rio Canasta, La Catarata, Cerro Pittier and Valle del Silencio.
The Tres Colinas Sector has trails that lead to Cerro Kamuk and Sabanas Esperanza. The Altamira Sector (near Buenos Aires, Puntarenas) has trails that lead to Valle del Silencio, Gigantes del Bosque, Canasta and Sabanas Esperanza.
